Mountain Province Diamonds announced increased indicated and inferred resources at the Gahcho Kue project July 2.

Indicated resources increased by 12 per cent to 33.8 million tons and inferred resources increased by 80 per cent to 11.3 million tons, bringing the diamond content indicated mineral occurrences to 56.5 million carats.

Mountain Province owns 49 per cent of the project along with joint venture partner De Beers, which owns 51 per cent.

De Beers Canada and the GNWT signed a socio-economic agreement June 8 laying out De Beers Canada's commitments to employment, training, business opportunities and other benefits for the NWT should the Gahcho Kue Mine be approved.

Public hearings for the project wrapped up in December and the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board is expected to release its recommendations report in the coming weeks.
