On June 15, at approximately 1 a.m., officers from the RCMP's federal investigation unit, with the assistance of officers from the Yellowknife detachment, executed search warrants on two separate apartments at the Sunridge Apartments on 51A Avenue.

Craig Dryneck, 24, and Rusty Landry, 26, both of Yellowknife, have each been charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking in connection with the warrants.

Police uncovered more than five pounds of marijuana and 10 rocks of crack cocaine. The search also turned up a "large amount of Canadian currency," multiple cellphones, a pair of brass knuckles and various drug paraphernalia.

The amount of the cash found nor the value of the drugs will be disclosed, said RCMP Cpl. Barry Ledoux.

According to the NWT Bureau of Statistics, the rate of arrests for drug trafficking was seven per 1,000 people in the Northwest Territories in 2011. This is more than triple the rate from a decade prior.
