SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - Walking on Franklin Avenue and 52 Street, one can smell the curry spices and hear the sizzling of the grill, before your eyes see the new concession stand on the corner.

Sousanh Chanthalangsy and Alex Bornilla, her fiance and co-owner, work side-by-side at the their new concession stand, One of a Thai, which is towed by a vehicle. The menu boasts fried shrimp rolls, spring rolls, spicy green curry chicken, coconut curry chicken skewers, pad thai, homemade thai pork sausages and, for vegetarians, a spicy red curry tofu.

The eatery moved from being stationed inside the Yk Curling Club to setting up shop downtown on May 16.

Chanthalangsy said it was a move she and her fiance wanted to make to try to attract more business over lunch.

"Being in the curling club it was kinda dark and gloomy and not great for business so we decided to move into a concession stand to catch people on their lunches and to be working in the sun," said Chanthalangsy. "Being mobile, we can also offer Thai cuisine to other events."

One of a Thai will be catering out of the Yk Curling Club once the curling season starts up again this fall.

The hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside of the Greenstone Building on Franklin Avenue, Monday to Friday, and then on the weekends, it will be parked at the Wal-mart parking lot during the same time slot.

If business is good, the couple are hoping to expand the concession stand's hours to also have it operating from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Franklin Avenue.
