Ready for the future Paul Bickford Northern News Services Published Monday, May 16, 2011
Aurora College has completed another school year by bidding farewell and the best of luck to 118 new graduates.
That is a significant increase from last year when Aurora College produced 99 graduates. The college presented certificates, diplomas and degrees (in conjunction with several southern universities which are the degree-granting institutions) at recent graduation ceremonies. The graduations were held on April 30 at Thebacha Campus in Fort Smith, on May 7 at Yellowknife Campus and on May 13 at Aurora Campus in Inuvik. One of the highlights of this year's graduating class was the number of nursing degrees granted - four Masters of Nursing and 18 Bachelors of Science in Nursing. "Graduating Masters' students in the North is a pretty big highlight, and we had the largest graduating class in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, as well," said Liz Doyle, Aurora College's manager of college relations and communications, noting there were 14 graduates last year in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Those nursing programs are offered at the college's Yellowknife Campus. Aside from certificate, diploma and degree programs, the college also offers a variety of shorter courses at its campuses and community learning centres.
