Charlie Evalik re-elected KIA president

KITIKMEOT - Kitikmeot Inuit beneficiaries re-elected Charlie Evalik as president of the Kitikmeot Inuit Association.

The 59-year-old Cambridge Bay resident got 476 votes, about 55 per cent of the 868 votes cast. Former KIA board member Joe Otokiak finished second with 232 votes while Vivienne Aknavigak received 160 votes. The participation rate was 25 per cent of eligible voters.

Also elected were four board members – Bruno Qavvik for Kugaaruk, Floyd Kaitak for Kugluktuk, Peter Akkikungnaq for Gjoa Haven and David Irqiut for Taloyoak.

Evalik will be the association's president until March 31, 2014.
