Canadian North adds 25 flights serving Nunavut
New schedule includes more same-day connections

Canadian North announced Tuesday it is adding 25 new weekly flights to Northern communities in the Kitikmeot and Qikiqtani Baffin regions.
The new flights will mean more same-day connections between Iqaluit and Ottawa are available to travellers, as well as more flights between Yellowknife and the territory. "We expanded the service because of three elements. We were awarded contracts with Nutrition North to fly food to the regions, we had the contract with the government of Nunavut for medical and duty travel and then there's overall market growth," said Lorraine Bonner, vice-president of scheduled services for Canadian North. Bonner said Canadian North had signed two freight contracts to deliver food into the territory as a result of the Nutrition North program, which launched April 1. Due to a confidentiality clause, Bonner could not discuss the details of the contracts. “We’re excited to be able to increase our frequency to the communities in such a significant way as it means better and more frequent connections for our customers,” said Bonner. "It's all about doing the best by our beneficiaries." Bonner said Canadian North also added three more flights a week between Yellowknife and Edmonton, effective April 1.
