Trade show lures south
Guy Quenneville Northern News Services Published Monday, January 10, 2011
So far, interest in the upcoming Construction North of 60 Conference and Trade show has stemmed primarily from southern companies, says Phil Moon Son, executive director of the NWT Construction Association, which is hosting the Feb. 2 to 3 event in Yellowknife.
"We're casting our net territory-wide, but we recognize that we will probably get quite a bit of Yellowknife participation. But right now, we're getting a lot of hits from the south, mainly," said Moon Son. "We think that Northerners will register over the next four weeks, whereas people from down south - because they have to book a plane and they have to have a little more organization - they've booked early." The two-day event will include a meet-and-greet between contractors and potential customers, added Moon Son. "People are always saying they have a hard time getting contractors, or they have a hard time asking contractors questions (about) Northern-specific problems, so this is an opportunity where they can have wine and ask these questions to a contractor."
