Nurse's death still without explanation
Elizabeth McMillan Northern News Services Published Wednesday, March 3, 2010
Tara Michelle Osmond was found unconscious in an apartment in Yellowknife, and pronounced dead at the Stanton Territorial Hospital on Nov. 1, 2009. At the time of Osmond's death, her family said police told them it would take between six weeks and six months to determine what happened. RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Wayne Norris said police are waiting for a final report from the NWT Coroner's Office, which includes lab and autopsy results. "I can't predict when they're going to (be done)," Norris said. "It's difficult to put a time-line on these things because we're working with other (offices)." Norris said the report was just one aspect of the ongoing investigation. "We're interviewing people and continuing our investigation based on information they provide," he said, adding Osmond's death is not considered a homicide, yet. "We'll be a better position to decide that once we receive all that information," he said. Deputy chief coroner Cathy Menard at the NWT Coroner's Office said they're waiting for a report from a forensic pathologist who is based in Alberta. She said those reports typically take four months, depending what type of tests are done. "We're hoping it's any day now," Menard said.
