Groundwork laid for trade show

With more than 100 exhibitors expected, including new faces and more home-based businesses, the trade show's 28th year is expected to attract a big crowd. "We will get anywhere from three to 6,000 visitors a day," said Ellie Sasseville, executive director for the Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce and the show organizer. "It's very well attended. Most of the city takes in this event," she said. Last year, more than 7,000 people visited the trade show and its approximately 125 booths. This year's show will still have four sections; auto and RV, business services, community corner - where non-profit associations and home-based businesses exhibit - and local artists. Yellowknife-based artists were invited to exhibit but none have confirmed yet, said Sasseville. Exhibitors are mostly from Yellowknife and Edmonton but a few outside exhibitors, such as German Titanium Cookware Inc. from Saskatchewan, are expected to attend, Sasseville added. "It's mostly Yellowknife businesses at the trade show. There's a few from out of town this year selling some products that are not available in Yellowknife," Sasseville said. "Polar Tech, who is a Yellowknife business, is doing a much larger display this year than they've done in the past. We have more home-based business this year than previous years." But visitors will notice minor changes, as more kids activities are planned and new exhibitors are expected, she added. "We still have a few booths left to sell and we're still planning some of the activities and things," she said. "We still have some space available if anyone is interested in participating, they can contact the chamber office." Yellowknife Chrysler will display 20 or more RVs and trailers in the auto and RV section. The show is "very important," said general manager Greg Boucher. "We've got a good partnership with the Chamber of Commerce on that. We've been, I think, one of the bigger displayers for the last six years so we look forward to keeping that up," he said. "It's a big sale for us too. It's a good value for our customers and it works."
