Mountie charged with assault
Emily Ridlington Northern News Services Published Monday, March 22, 2010
Const. Eric Ootoovak was arrested after RCMP responded to a disturbance call at a home in the community, according to an RCMP press release. Ootoovak spent the night in jail before being released, said RCMP Sgt. Jimmy Akavak. "Alcohol was involved; it was definitely a factor," Akavak said. The release stated Ootoovak was on extended leave from the RCMP at the time of the incident. Akavak said that before Ootoovak went on leave he had been a member of the force in Iqaluit. Ootoovak is set to appear in court in Pond Inlet on June 1. A code of conduct investigation under the RCMP Act is underway.
