Qayutinuak used to coach soccer and hopes he will be chosen as this year's badminton coach. His favourite subject in school is physical education because he loves sports. "I'm really athletic; I play almost all the sports," he said. Qayutinuak is also an accomplished drum dancer, and has attended festivals. "I've been travelling for drum dances, so far to Gjoa Haven, Kugaaruk and Rankin for drum dance," he said. Currently, Qayutinuak serves as Grade 10 representative on the student council. "I've been on student council ... it might be six or seven years," he said. "Ever since we started student council I've been on it every year." Qayutinuak said he recently helped the council run a successful event on Feb. 12. "We just finished having a Valentine's dance on Friday," he said. "It went really well." Qayutinuak said his future goal is to attend the Nunavut Sivuniksavut program in Ottawa when he is done high school. He said he hopes to learn and preserve his use of Inuktitut while in the program. Pizzo said Qayutinuak is an important member of both the school and his community. "I've known him all his life, since he was born," she said. "He's a really nice kid, really outgoing."
