Ernest Goulet, 24, has been charged with aggravated assault and has yet to enter a plea. He appeared in territorial court on Dec. 1 wearing a white button-down shirt and black pants. Defence lawyer Stephen Shabala said he expects the preliminary inquiry to take at least three hours. "I believe that perhaps medical evidence will be requested," he said. Goulet, who is from Ndilo, turned himself in to police on Sept. 22 and was subsequently released. Derrick Sangris, 28, was medevaced to Edmonton on Sept. 11 after an early-morning attack on 50 Street and was unresponsive for several days. He has since recovered. Man charged with sex assault says he's gathering evidence A man representing himself in court pleaded not guilty on Dec. 1 to a sexual assault charge relating to an incident on April 21. Judge Robert Gorin told the accused he should consider consulting with a lawyer. The man, wearing a three-piece grey suit and several large rings, said he has been compiling a defence. "I've gathered 398 pieces of evidence," he said. His case has been adjourned until Dec. 15 when a trial date will be set. Idling drunk costs man licence, fined $2,300 A Yellowknife man who police found sitting in the driver's seat of his vehicle with his keys in the ignition while intoxicated has had his licence suspended for two years. Patrick Goulet pleaded guilty in territorial court on Dec. 1 to operating a vehicle while impaired. His blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit and police apprehended him parked in a no parking zone. Judge Robert Gorin said the case was "close to the line" when it came to jail time. He ordered Goulet to pay a $2,000 fine, a $300 victims of crime surcharge and banned him from driving for two years. He will have three months to pay the fine. The 35-year-old has a previous drunk driving conviction from 2002.
