IQALUIT - The body of 69-year-old Percy Pikuyak was found near the Iqaluit airport on Nov. 26.

Pikuyak was a resident of Hall Beach and was visiting Iqaluit to attend Qikiqtaaluk Wildlife Board meetings taking place that week, according to RCMP Sgt. Jimmy Akavak.

An employee of the Co-op Gas Bar found Pikuyak's body the morning of Nov. 26 and informed the RCMP, Akavak said.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after 8 a.m., according to an RCMP press release.

Pikuyak was located wearing a parka and jeans in an open area between the Worker's Compensation Board office and the Co-op Gas Bar on Airport Road.

The coroner's office has ordered an autopsy and foul play is not suspected at this point in the investigation, said Akavak.

The temperature the night of Nov. 25 was -21 C without the windchill factor, according to Environment Canada. The morning Pikuyak was found the temperature was -34 C with the windchill.

RCMP officers have been going door-to-door in the area asking for information about Pikuyak's whereabouts the night of the incident, Akavak said.

Anyone with information about Pikuyak's whereabouts between the hours of 10 p.m. on Nov. 25 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 26, as well as any other information about the case is requested to call Iqaluit RCMP.
