KUGLUKTUK - Kugluktuk won't require an election for mayor.

Ernie Bernhardt has been acclaimed to the position. He said one of his goals for next term is to maintain a unified municipal council.

"I'd like to get everybody thinking on the same line and get everybody thinking as a team for the next term," he said. "I think that's the only way a council is going to work and be accountable to our own people to ensure we don't go into a deficit because times are hard now."

Bernhardt said another goal is to keep the municipal budget from running a deficit and to get community members thinking about ways to save money in the hamlet.

"Maybe we could have preventative workshops," he said. "Preventative programs about maintaining houses properly and electricity and fuel consumption."

Bernhardt said other aims will be established after he is sworn in as mayor in December.

"I have to wait until December 7 when we're sworn in to get a true feeling of what were going to do," he said.
