RANKIN INLET - The local branch of the CIBC is bringing the Run for the Cure back to Rankin Inlet this Sunday, Oct. 4.

The event is held across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Krista Andre is a senior customer service representative for the Rankin branch of the CIBC and is co-organizing this year's event.

She said this will mark the second time during the past four years that Rankin has participated in the Run for the Cure.

"The colour for the Run for the Cure is predominately pink, so our team here at CIBC has established all kinds of pink accessories we're going to wear during the event," said Andre.

"We encourage the public to adopt the pink theme because we're going to hand out prizes to those who wear the most pink, and to recognize the different ways they've used the colour.

"We'll also have tons of other prizes to hand out to people who participate.

"We'll be doing draws during the event to award those prizes."

Andre said people raise money for cancer research during the run by signing up pledges.

She said people pledge to pay a certain amount of money to the people who complete the course circuit.

"We have pledge cards here at CIBC and anyone who plans in participating in Sunday's event is welcome to stop by, register and pick up a pledge sheet.

"The participants return their pledge sheets on the day of the run and all the donations go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society."

Although billed as the Run for the Cure, Andre said the Rankin event is more of a walk and actually takes on the attributes of a community celebration.

She said registration will take place at CIBC at 1:30 p.m., with the actual walk around the road surrounding Williamson Lake beginning at 2 p.m.

"We plan to go around the loop twice, which works out to about 2.5 km.

"We've got the RCMP and fire department involved with the event.

"It's really going to be like a big fundraising parade."
