Card fraud not in NWT: RCMP

Northern News Services
Published Monday, July 6, 2009

SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A reported incident of debit card fraud reported to the RCMP last week was not perpetrated in the NWT, according to police.

The RCMP issued a statement on Friday, stating, "While the person who lodged the complaint resides within the territory, the event does not include participation by a business within the NWT ... The financial institution's security team worked closely with the RCMP to ascertain the area where the debit card was alleged to have been compromised."

A Yellowknife woman, who asked not to be identified, circulated an e-mail last week saying $1,000 was stolen from her bank account after her debit card was skimmed at a gas station.
