McGee pleads guilty to child porn
Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Friday, June 12, 2009
McGee and his lawyer Robert Davidson were both in court to enter the pleas. Davidson recommended that McGee attend an outpatient hospital in Edmonton for a risk assessment over concerns for McGee's mental health. "That would take six to eight weeks," said Davidson. "It's simply a part of the sentencing process." Crown prosecutor Janice Walsh was "supportive" of a risk assessment. She said the Crown "feels that it's necessary to have this report to come up with a proper sentence for Mr. McGee." McGee was also granted one-time permission to attend a park in Nova Scotia for his son's wedding in June. Court conditions currently keep him from attending parks, but the request for an exception in this instance was not opposed by Walsh and granted by Judge Brian Bruser. The matter will be back in court on June 23 to confirm a date for sentencing, which will take place in early September. A deputy judge will preside over the case since all resident judges would have a conflict with the matter. McGee was first charged with possession of child pornography and the breach on Oct. 15, 2008. He was convicted in 2004 for the molestation of two girls in 1974 and convicted again in 2006 for the sexual abuse of a girl in the early 1980s.
