Child porn suspects named
Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Friday, May 22, 2009
Ernie Gabriel Bouvier, facing one charge of possession of child pornography, is set for a territorial court appearance on Sept. 16 in Hay River. Harold Jerome Wedgerfield, charged with one count each of possessing and distributing child pornography, will appear in Yellowknife court on Sept. 22. "Yes, (Bouvier and Wedgerfield) are part of Project Salvo," said Crown prosecutor Shannon Smallwood on Thursday. "I can't really say anything else right now." Bouvier and Wedgerfield were arrested separately in March as part of 'Project Salvo,' a cross-Canada police investigation into child porn. Ever since the arrests were announced, the RCMP had not released the names, gender or home community of either individual. The police cited a sealing order put on the information by the courts, which limits public access. Following the second child porn arrest, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Norris said no children in the NWT were believed to be in danger. According to police, 'Project Salvo' is the largest investigation of its kind in Canadian history. It resulted in the arrests of 50 people across the country. Those individuals are facing charges which include sexual assault, sexual interference and possessing, making and distributing child pornography. |
