INUVIK - A break and enter call to the RCMP in Inuvik has led them to what they believe to be a stash house for cocaine traffickers in town.

RCMP recovered what they say is a significant amount of cash and crack cocaine from a residence at Mountain View Apartments last Wednesday. Police responded to a complaint of a break and enter at the complex and upon investigation found cash, drugs, packaging materials and electronics in the apartment unit.

Cpl. Sean Doornbos said they wouldn’t comment on the amount of cash or drugs seized but said the bust was "significant."

“I would say it’s in line to be one of the significant players in town,” he said. “It looks like it would be enough to support a day’s work for a drug dealer here.”

Doornbos said the daily crack cocaine trade is somewhere between 50 and 100 hits at $120 each, making it approximately a $100,000 a week trade.

RCMP are unsure of how the person gained entry into the apartment unit. The last tenant had vacated the residence and had not given permission to anyone to be in there.

The investigation is ongoing and Doornbos said they don't know how many people are involved and are still gathering evidence.

Doornbos said the RCMP hopes to lay charges in the near future.
