Woman threatens to kill daughter of shelter worker
Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Friday, April 10, 2009
According to Crown prosecutor Mike Himmelman, the woman repeatedly phoned the shelter on Dec. 16, 2008 and told an employee she was going to kill the employee's daughter. Himmelman said the woman was dating the ex-husband of the employee's daughter and was upset that the daughter was keeping her married name. Himmelman said the woman called the shelter roughly 13 times within a three-hour period. The shelter "is a place where people are supposed to be safe from violence and threats of violence," the Crown prosecutor said. Defence lawyer Garrett O'Brien said the woman was intoxicated at the time of the incident and "does accept responsibility for her behaviour." Judge Christine Gagnon sentenced the woman to "one day in jail, which is served by your attendance in court today." She was also given one year of probation and is to have no contact with the woman she was threatening to kill. |
