Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Wednesday, February 25, 2009
Kirk Magrum, 32, has been charged with trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He remains in police custody and will be in territorial court March 17. A second man, William Barney, 36, is charged with possession of a controlled substance. He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Territorial Court on April 14. According to police, the investigation resulted in the seizure of 16.9 grams of crack cocaine and more than $1,000 in cash. "The amount (of crack) is equivalent to 50 individual street dosages," said RCMP Sgt. Wayne Norris. He said the seizure contributes to the "interruption of the supply of drugs" on Yellowknife streets. Norris said police are grateful for all information they receive which aids in investigations into the drug trade. "We're out there and that, I think, is a key message," he said. "We want safer communities and healthier communities. It's a priority for us." |
