INUVIK - Ahmed Sais and his cab were the target of vandalism for the fifth time since he started driving his cab in Inuvik.

Sais said the incidents occurred when he was out driving. The most recent incident saw his 2005 Ford Windstar vandalized. The cab-driver was parked in front of the Mad Trapper when his van was attacked.

"I was sitting there when my window was smashed," he said.

"I tried to follow them (vandals) but they ran behind the courthouse and escaped."

Sais said what happened next stunned him.

"When I came back from chasing them, I looked around and my van was gone. Someone from the bar stole it," he said.

Sais said a witness told him that someone made off with his cab while he was busy chasing the vandals who broke his window.

From there, Sais called the RCMP, who found his van stuck in a ditch on Wolverine Road, all the way across town.

"They called me and told me it was stuck in a ditch," he said.

When the van was ditched, it took damage to the front end fender and turning signal.

"The light is broken," said Sais.

Sais said it took the RCMP a long time to get back to him about the incident.

"I wanted to complain. They told me to fill a form and send it to Ottawa," he said.

Sais said he was surprised to see the vandals were older, most likely young adults.

"They were old enough to be in the bar and the one who took my van came from the bar," he said.

The cost of replacing the window amounted to $1,215.

RCMP Staff Sgt. John Milner said the police detachment informed Sais that suspects were caught and charged.

"I can't say what they were charged with, but the results of the investigation led to charges being laid," said Milner.

"He's been updated on the situation."
