Third sex attack on Frame Lake Trail
Cara Loverock Northern News Services Published Friday, December 05 2008
The Nov. 12 attack on a female took place alongside the trail, roughly between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., according to an RCMP press release.
The attacker is described as an aboriginal male, roughly six feet tall with hazel or brown eyes and was wearing a dark, two-piece snow machine suit with reflective stripes, a black neck warmer and black toque. "I can say it occurred, we believe, somewhere between Albatross and Dakota Court, off Matonabee," RCMP Staff Sgt. Mike Brandford said Thursday. "It happened at a time of day when we believe there would be people frequenting the path." Information concerning the sexual assault was not provided to them immediately after the incident, police stated. They are therefore asking the public for any information that may aid the investigation. This is the third unsolved sexual assault reported on the Frame Lake Trail this year. With different descriptions reported of the assailants, police are doubtful the incidents are related, Brandford said. However, he added the investigation is "not discounting anything." Another sexual assault was reported Aug. 6 in the same area. The incident was reported to have occurred between 10:50 and 11:20 p.m. as a woman was walking toward 53 Street near the old Gerry Murphy Arena and Somba K'e Park. The suspect in that assault was reportedly around 30 to 40-years-old, has a husky build, shoulder-length dark hair and was said to possibly be aboriginal. On June 6, a 19-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted in the early morning hours of June 6. She told police she had been attacked from behind on the trail between the Yellowknife Community Arena and Stanton Territorial Hospital. The suspect in that case was described as an aboriginal man, shorter than 5 feet 8 inches and of medium build. |
