Cadets go green in Repulse
Darrell Greer Northern News Services Published Wednesday, November 26 2008
The cadets participated in the annual Remembrance Day service, one of the biggest days of the year for the corps, before stepping up their training efforts for the newest members.
Repulse cadet instructor Leonie Aissaoui said among the first orders of business was to have the first-year cadets spend the night at Tusarvik school as part of their Green Star requirements. Aissaoui said the Green Star is the first-year level of achievement in the cadet program. She said it is also the first of four star requirements for cadets, followed by red, silver and gold. "The cadets were involved in a number of different activities during the evening, ranging from marksmanship training with RCMP Const. Shane Courtorielle to participating in group games and physical activities in our gymnasium," said Aissaoui. "We had, in total, about 15 cadets take part in the program." Green Star training followed the cadets' participation in the annual Remembrance Day ceremonies on Nov. 11. A total of 27 cadets took part in the ceremony. Aissaoui said the cadet program remains fairly strong in Repulse. She said the local corps has a large number of new cadets within its ranks this year. "We have a few senior cadets remaining, but most of our corps is now comprised of new cadets. "We lost a number of our senior cadets when they left the community to attend college. "But, thankfully, a lot of kids turned of age to join the corps this year, so our numbers have remained strong." |
