SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - Gorman Pittman, a cab driver for Diamond Cabs, had to lose a morning of work in order to fix the window of his taxi. He found his vehicle vandalized early Monday morning after one of the back windows was destroyed.

"I couldn't work because there was glass all over the place," he said. The vehicle was parked at Ptarmigan Apartments at around 6 p.m. Sunday and found damaged Monday morning. Pittman has temporarily fixed the damage himself in order to be able to continue driving the vehicle but he will still need to have the window replaced.

"Now I got to find out how much it's going to cost to replace it," said Pittman. He is hoping the insurance through the cab company will cover the cost of repairs. Pittman said he is mainly frustrated at the seemingly random attack on his property.

The vandals "busted out the window for no reason at all," said Pittman. "I mean, why?"

Pittman reported the vandalism to RCMP Monday morning shortly after he discovered it. Police "are looking into it," he said.

He added that there isn't much in the way of surveillance or lighting around Ptarmigan and thus it is unlikely he will find who is responsible.

Pittman is not alone in his frustration with car vandals. Last week Yellowknife resident Paul Martin had his prized Mustang GT convertible vandalized with deep scratches to the body and rips in the roof when he left it parked overnight near the Legion.
