Holiday variety show taking shape

Lorne Bowles is pounding the pavement this weekend to sign up performers for a Side Door Youth Centre fundraiser he's cooking up for December. His brand new business, The Potluck Community Playhouse, is hosting a premier event scheduled for Dec. 19 at Northern United Place. "The reason I chose the name potluck is because people bring what they got," Bowles explained. He describes his vision for the variety show as an all-inclusive, multicultural celebration of the festive season for all ages. "Like an old-fashioned kitchen party," he said. Bowles is looking for all kinds of performers willing to donate a 10-minute performance during the event. He invites singers, musicians, actors, spoken word artists, comedians, storytellers, dancers and jugglers to participate. "I hope to add international food to the mix, too." Originally from Newfoundland, Bowles moved to Yellowknife last year. He decided to build his new home-based business as a talent co-ordinator and producer after being impressed by the diversity of the local arts community. He said artists interested in getting involved should look for posters around town next week. |
