Medic North celebrates one year
Jason Emiry Northern News Services Published Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Since taking over the contract for the Inuvik base Oct. 1, the company has been the first to provide medevac service for the entire NWT.
Medic North employs more than 100 staff - 30 on the medevac teams. "We have a Yellowknife base and an Inuvik base," said Kara Livy of Medic North. "We'll fly out to the community and get patients and bring them into Stanton. We'll fly out in the Inuvik region and bring them into the Inuvik Regional Hospital. We also fly any patients that need further assistance to Edmonton." Livy said the work the company does relies on the work of many people. Air Tindi is the medevac air carrier in Yellowknife and Aklak Air is the carrier in Inuvik. Medical Travel provides dispatch information, hospital staff at Stanton and Inuvik Regional provide further medical care and the Yellowknife Fire Department transports patients between the aircraft and the hospital. "This celebration is not just a Medic North medevac celebration, but a celebration of new partnerships and great relationships," she said. |
