SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A crowd of 100 took in an evening of French Canadian music and dance at Tree of Peace on Tuesday.
The Federation culturelle canadienne-française and Federation des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada celebrated 400 years of the French language in Quebec City on Canada Day.
Funding from provincial and federal governments enabled the group to perform exceptional entertainment.
Francoforce featured a group of multi-talented French Canadian musicians from across Canada, from Vancouver to St. John's.
The program was adapted for the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Newfoundland and Labrador.
"There are about 700 Francophones living in Yellowknife," explained Jeff Bougie of Radio Taiga.
"This program allows us to show what we do in Yellowknife. We work hard to keep the community strong," .
Juno Award-winner Antoine Gratton was musical director for a program that featured musicians from Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.
The group played traditional music and original work written by its members.
The evening was a mix of Acadian, folk, pop music and ballads.
Stef Paquette of Ontario and Melanie Leblanc of New Brunswick had the crowd laughing during their performances.
Karine Gallant from Prince Edward Island wowed those in attendance with her violin virtuosity. Geneviève Toupin from Manitoba amazed with her vocal and piano work.
The multi-talented Jac Gautreau and Antoine Gratton played several instruments, keeping the crowd's attention throughout the performance.
