YELLOWKNIFE - A 27-year-old man was charged with assault after attacking his mother in her home, police say.

A Bison Estates resident complained to police after hearing a fight in a neighboring suite at about 3 a.m. on Dec. 28.

RCMP Const. Roxanne Dreilich was unable to say whether the man lived at the residence but said the man was arrested and released with conditions to have no contact with the victim.

Wife with a knife

The police responded to a call reporting a 20-year-old woman who had pulled a knife on her 44-year-old husband at around 7:15 a.m. on December 26. Dreilich could not say what kind of knife was used in the incident.

The man sustained a superficial cut to his chest during the incident, and the woman was taken into custody and now faces charges of assault with a weapon.

Assault reported after party

Police responded to a report of an assault by a 19-year-old female Dec. 24.

The woman told police that a 21-year-old male had struck her several times in the head.

Dreilich said that the assault occurred in the man's residence, after the two had returned from a Christmas party.

"There were no injuries requiring any medical attention," Dreilich said.

The man was located and arrested in the residence without incident, and charges of assault are pending.

Guests report attack on woman

A 54-year-old man was arrested after relatives reported seeing him assault his 46-year-old wife in their Sisson's Court residence on December 25.

Dreilich said the incident was witnessed by two relatives of the couple who were visiting their home. The man was taken into custody when police arrived and later released with an order to have no contact with the victim. The woman sustained no injuries from the attack.

Former boyfriend charged

A 22-year-old woman called the police Dec. 27 to report that her former boyfriend had assaulted her in her home the previous day.

The 23-year-old man had left the residence before police could get there. Dreilich said the man had not been located at the time the report was filed. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
