The Multiplex is still haunted

YELLOWKNIFE - Halloween may have come and gone already, but there's still one spot in the city that remains haunted.

At the Multiplex tomorrow night, five youth bands will have a go at an all-ages gig which is one of a handful planned during the school year. But this one - the Still Haunted Halloween Show - is a little different.

Brian Herbert, who helps organize the youth shows, said about 80 people attended the last time one of these youth shows was held, and he's hoping for another good turnout this time.

Among the five bands that will play are two that are making a debut at the show.

"This is the first show for the new Peter and the Dukes and for Daisy Myers, so these guys are trying out their stuff," said Herbert.

The two acts will also add to the variety of style that the youth bands produce for the shows. Colm Herbert of the band Haste; Inhale said Daisy Myers' music is a mix of alternative and techno, while Peter and the Dukes have a blended sound of country, rock and folk.

"It probably makes the show better, because not everyone's into the same kind of music. So there's different variety, so there's music for everyone," he said.

The three other bands that will play include Haste; Inhale and A Frayed Reality, whose sounds are heavy, and Fish Be?, who Herbert said play a variety of music.

"It should be a pretty wide-open show," he said.

The show is wide-open in terms of audience, as well. As with the other shows organized by the same crowd, it is drug- and alcohol-free and family friendly.

Colm said people who attend the show can expect good music and a good time.

"Every band is going to put their all into it," he said.

The musicians will also try out a new method of performing, where each band will play two sets of three songs each.

People are encouraged to participate in the Halloween theme by showing up in costume. The show starts Saturday at 7 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m.
