Arts, crafts, brownies and sushi?

YELLOWKNIFE - The arts, crafts and bake sale held at Northern United Place on Saturday featured some interesting artwork and delicious-looking brownies.

And the sushi wasn't too bad either.

One of the first things people saw when walking into the craft sale was a sign that read ''Sushi''.

Trevor Newcombe looked slightly sheepish when asked why he was selling sushi at the bake sale, since it was an unexpected sight.

"I'm thinking of making an order online for lunch sushi business," Newcombe said. He called the sale of his sushi a 'test market.'

And how did he do?

Newcombe estimated that he brought 60 boxes to the bake sale, and had managed to sell two-thirds of his product.

"The most popular one is the Yellowknife special," he said.

The Yellowknife special featured northern fish in the sushi.

Newcombe isn't affiliated with the local sushi business, Sushi North, he said. He was doing it independently.

His business would be called Sushi Xpress, he said, and though there is a website available online, he said it's not ready to be announced yet.

Near the end of the bake sale, Newcombe was still selling sushi to people - hungry vendors nearby with only brownies and other desserts to sell.
