Game time in Chester

CHESTERFIELD INLET - The community of Chesterfield Inlet came together to celebrate four days worth of fun, games and quality family time earlier this month.

The Easter games and events were organized by the Chester recreation committee.

Hamlet recreation co-ordinator Michelle Branchaud said a full slate of activities were held for young and old at this year's event.

She said a little spin was even put on the game lineup, with the youth games moving to the ice from the indoor environment where they're usually held.

"The weather was nice, so the kids really seemed to enjoy playing the games and stuff out on the ice rather than being inside," said Branchaud.

"We also held a little gathering afterwards with some snacks, hotdogs, tea and hot chocolate to warm up and almost all the kids showed up for that."

Among the games held in Chester this year were the always popular four-way tug of war, running games, sled races, piggy back races and target ball rolling.

A number of radio games were also held for the community's elders and shut-ins, and a special evening of gospel music was held at the community hall.

Branchaud said she was pleased by the level of participation at this year's games.

She said there were plenty of entries into the Easter colouring and drawing contest, as well as the poem and short story and cake decorating events.

"We had quite a bit going on, really, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

"I was quite impressed by the quality of some of the drawings and short stories that were submitted to our contests.

"We had a bunch of prizes donated by our local Co-op and Northern store, as well as the Chesterfield Inlet Development Corp., which is always greatly appreciated by the hamlet and the community."
