RANKIN INLET - Four people charged in connection with an August 2005 home invasion in Rankin Inlet have met very different fates at the Nunavut Court of Justice.

Ujaralaaq Eno pleaded guilty on March 28 in Rankin Inlet to a charge of assault. A second assault charge was withdrawn, and a charge of unlawfully being in a dwelling house was stayed. She received a conditional discharge and eight months of probation.

Gary Sigurdson was found not guilty on March 28 in Rankin Inlet of charges of sexual assault, unlawfully being in a dwelling house and obstruction of justice.

In January, Jonathan Kaludjak was found guilty of sexual assault and unlawfully being in a dwelling house and was sentenced in March to one day in jail for the sexual assault and a six-month conditional sentence for the unlawfully being in a dwelling house conviction.

Amy Kaludjuk pleaded guilty in June 2006 to charges of assault, assault causing bodily harm, and illegally being in a dwelling house. She received an eight-month conditional sentence, one year of probation, and was ordered to provide the court with a DNA sample.

All four accused were charged in relation to an incident in Rankin Inlet on Aug. 6, 2005.

RCMP said at the time that one of two women victims opened the door of the home for the two women charged, and they beat her unconscious.

RCMP reported that the second victim was assaulted in her sleep, and a 12-year-old boy was assaulted when he tried to intervene.
