Northern News Services
Monday, April 02, 2007

YELLOWKNIFE - Due to deteriorating conditions, caused by warmer temperatures, some winter roads have become unsafe and are being closed for the season.

The southern section of the Mackenzie Valley winter road from Wrigley to Tulita and the winter roads to Trout Lake, Nahanni Butte and Colville Lake all closed on Saturday.

The northern section of the winter road from Tulita to Fort Good Hope is still open to all traffic.

However, the department of transportation indicates overflow and signs of deterioration are increasing.

Winter roads are reaching the end of the season and the department of transportation will try and provide 48 hours notice before closing a road, but warn they will be closed without notice if necessary.
