CAPE DORSET - Funerals are never easy, but when the funeral is for a five-year-old child, the entire community suffers.
Cape Dorset went through that pain last week, following a tragic accident in the hamlet.
On March 21 at around 7:45 p.m., the hamlet sewer truck struck a five-year-old on a toboggan.
The accident happened near House 10.
The child was declared dead at the Cape Dorset health centre the same day. A funeral was held on March 24 at the Anglican Church in the hamlet.
RCMP are still investigating, but most of the investigation is complete. They do not anticipate charges being laid.
"We have had the vehicle inspected, and we are interviewing witnesses. It looks like there will be no charges," said Cpl. Randy Slawson of the RCMP's V Division.
"Kids were tobogganing from a small hill, and the sewage truck came around the corner. The truck swerved to avoid the child, but the child was still hit," said Slawson.
RCMP would not disclose the name of the child, to protect the privacy of the family.
