YELLOWKNIFE - Police are expecting to lay charges against a 30-year-old man after forcibly confining his girlfriend and three young children at home.
The incident took place overnight on March 27-28.
RCMP received a call around noon on March 28 by the Department of Health and Social Services alerting them to the situation.
Police arrived on scene to find the woman with bruises and scratches on her wrist. Also present were three children, ages one month, two months, and three-years-old. Not all the children were her own, police say.
Although police may lay assault charges on top of the forcible confinement charge against the man, it's still unclear what kind of violence or threats the man used to keep her there, said Const. Roxanne Dreilich.
"Obviously this was a violent situation with the children at home," said Dreilich.
There were no weapons found at the scene, according to police.
The man was arrested on the scene without incident and subsequently released on condition to appear in court. He was also restricted not to have any contact with the victim.
