YELLOWKNIFE - An investigation into a stabbing incident in Ndilo last Wednesday is going slowly, according to the RCMP.
Two woman were found stabbed and taken to hospital on the morning of Jan. 31.
The younger stabbing victim, 26, has not aided police investigations, as she is refusing to cooperate with RCMP, said Const. Roxanne Dreilich.
"If they won't tell us anything, there's nothing we can do," she said. "It's a waiting game."
The other victim, 31, whose injuries were much more serious, is still unconscious at Stanton Territorial Hospital, according to Dreilich.
"Hopefully when the other victim wakes up she can shed some light on circumstances," she said.
Medical staff had tried to medevac the woman to Edmonton last Thursday but were forced to turn back when her condition worsened.
The stabbing occurred the morning of Jan. 31 and the 31-year-old woman had undergone surgery in Yellowknife that afternoon for wounds in her abdomen and chest area. However, her injuries were serious enough to warrant a move to Edmonton, said Dreilich. It is unknown where in Ndilo the stabbing occurred, said Dreilich. The women had walked to a house to call the RCMP, but it is not known where they walked from.
Also complicating investigations is the fact that they had been wearing coats. "There is no blood trail," said Dreilich.
The names of the women will not be released at the request of their families, she said.
RCMP do know that the women had been close friends in the past, but it is unknown if the nature of their relationship had changed for any reason.
