Arctic Red River (Jan 22/07) - An 11-year-old boy suffered a cut to his head last week after falling off a sled pulled by a snowmobile.

Deron Andre Stuart was rushed to Inuvik Regional Hospital by both his parents on the night of Jan. 15.

Stuart received nine stitches to the side of his head as a result of the accident.

"He's doing good, he's back in school," said his mother Mary Andre Stuart, on Jan. 17.

Stuart said her son was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened.

He was riding behind a snowmobile on a "GT Snowracer" sled, by holding onto a rope.

Unfortunately, the sled veered towards some garbage cans, and the boy cut his head in the crash.

Andre Stuart's mother said she's very thankful her son is okay.

However, she said there's also an important lesson for him to learn.

"Children shouldn't be pulling small sleds, children should always wear helmets when they're using a snowmobile," she said.
