Yellowknife (Jan 10/07) - Passengers have been flying into the Yellowknife airport and landing at the Navigator Restaurant.

A new wireless Internet connection is attracting customers who want to come in for a bite and do some office work or just surf the net, said co-owner Nhan Do.

"People with a two hour or three hour wait come in and can chit-chat on the net," he said, adding it costs $6.95 an hour.

Another minor change since Nhan and co-owner Brad Baker took over is a door now directly connects the eatery and the passenger gateway, which people come through as they get off their flight, he said.

"Passengers see it and can now just walk into the restaurant," he said.

Since taking over the restaurant last April, the co-owners have offered a breakfast and lunch buffet, which has not only been popular with passengers, but a segment of Yellowknife residents, too, he said.

There is a different $10.95 meal each day of the week for the lunch buffet, while the weekend $9.95 all day breakfast buffet features hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and homemade beans, he said.

"On the weekends, lots of families come out for the buffet and watch the planes," he said.

New items are expected to appear on the menu in February, said Do.

They will include, deep fried chicken, dry ribs, chicken wings and a variety of different wraps.

"The wraps are going to be very popular for sure," he said.

The bulk of the restaurant's traffic is in the mornings and Do expects his 12 staff members to continue to be busy during the Japanese tourist season this winter.

With new food items on the way, cook and cashier, Norman Enerio expects a busy pace.

The employee began working at the restaurant seven months ago and has been enjoying his job, he said.

"We do a variety of work, but it's good for sure," he said.
