Yellowknife (Oct 25/06) - A month after rocker Kim Mitchell was forced to cancel his Yellowknife concert, organizers have set a new date for a performance by the Canadian music icon.

Promoter Garry Hubert said the concert will go ahead Nov. 17 at the Yellowknife Community Arena. "I really want to express my sincere thanks to the public for their patience and understanding," Hubert said.
"The problem was finding a facility. We tried the hangars, and a multitude of places," Hubert said.
The City of Yellowknife eventually stepped forward and offered the community area on Franklin Avenue. "The city said 'We're going to support you with this'."
The space does present a problem, however, he said. A floor will have to be placed over the arena's ice surface and removed after the concert.
Mitchell postponed his first Yellowknife concert date after his sound technician and road manager Bruno Mambella was killed in a car accident. "With Kim Mitchell, he's lost a long time valuable member of his band. That's why it took so long."
The show will open with Yellowknife rockers Esker. Hubert said he's waiting for confirmation from another local act, the Leslie Bader Band. Hindsite would the fall back if the Leslie Bader Band is unavailable, he said.
He also said that extra tickets would be available for the event.
