Fort Simpson (Oct 13/06) - A construction company in Fort Simpson faces four charges in connection with the death of one of its employees last year.

Alex Cazon died on the job in Oct. 4, 2005 when a sewage truck door at the rear burst open and struck him on the head.

The Workers Compensation Board of the NWT and Nunavut - the organization investigated the incident along with police - announced the charges Tuesday.

Rowe's Construction is charged with failing to: maintain a safe working environment; take all reasonable precautions and safety measures; adequately train an employee in how to operate a vacuum/pumper truck; and, how to safely maintain the machine.

At the time of the accident, police said there was a build-up of pressure on the 200-300 pound door.

The incident happened at the village's sewage treatment plant.

Cazon died shortly after the accident, said police.

Rowe's Construction could not be reached for comment by deadline.

The case will be heard in territorial court.
