Inuvik (Aug 18/06) - Arena users will gather Aug. 31 to hash out the ice schedule at the Midnight Sun recreation complex for the upcoming year.

The rink schedule starts on Oct. 1 and will be in effect until March 31, 2007.

Town of Inuvik recreation programmer Josh McDonald will be hosting the meeting. He said the gathering will be important for determining what groups are given ice time.

"Every year we make a schedule that is based from this... meeting," said McDonald.

Groups gather, each vying for the best possible ice times, he said.

"Each group signs a contract for their designated time and are billed for the hours on the ice."

Adult-oriented activities like the old-timers hockey league are billed $100 per hour. Youth events, like minor hockey, are only charged $50 per hour. "There are reduced rates for tournaments for both adults and youth," said McDonald.

The recreation complex is open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. All hours are available for booking. McDonald said that exceptions are made during peak times, like the Arctic Winter Games trials.
