Projector burns out during movie

Yellowknife (Aug 04/06) - The main projector at Capitol Theatre burned out this past Friday night in the middle of Ant Bully, an animated kids movie.

As a result, the theatre's largest cinema was closed for four days this week, only opening up Tuesday night.

"We were sort of lucky it happened during a kid show," said Chris Hauff, theatre manager.

"If it had burned out during, for example, Pirates (of the Caribbean), it would have been worse."

The 237-seat theatre was about half full for the showing and patrons received passes, allowing them to come back for a future showing.

The projector ended up being out of service for about four days as a part had to be shipped to Yellowknife.

As it was only the main theatre that was without a projector, the other movies played on without a hitch.

The main movie theatre is used for the newest movies being released.

According to Hauff, the theatre had to contact the movie companies and explain why Ant Bully wasn't being played.

Hauff said a couple of employees were sent home due to lack of work, but mostly they were grateful to get the days off and not have to try and switch shifts with anyone.

"It is back up and running now," said Hauff.

"We've bought an extra part so that instead of taking four days to fix next time, it will only take an hour."
