Yellowknife (July 19/06) - A downtown bank inadvertently called the police while testing its alarm system this past Friday afternoon.
Four police officers showed up at the Bank of Montreal (BMO) in the Centre Square Mall at around 1:08 p.m., expecting to find an armed robbery had taken place.
Instead, police found a surprised staff and bank full of customers wondering what was going on, said branch manager Janet Porteous.
"They were here within two minutes. They came in with very concerned looks on their faces."
Porteous said the bank had received new automated bank machines and a new alarm system.
The person showing staff how to use the system believed the alarms were in a test-mode when he set off the alarm.

The boy suffered minor injuries to one of his arms and was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital.
The incident happened near Village Reddi Mart.
RCMP Const. Colleen Werrell described the accident as a "slow-speed collision."
Const. Colleen Werrell said there were no calls to the RCMP from the Folk on the Rocks music festival over the weekend, but police were busy downtown.
Werrell could not comment on why there seemed to be so many calls this weekend - 118 between Friday and Monday, "Unless it's Caribou Carnival or Raven Mad Daze, it's a hit or miss," said Werrell. Overall there were 261 complaints made to the RCMP from July 10 to last Monday.
