Inuvik (May 12/06) - The Inuvik RCMP made a "significant" drug bust last week, seizing marijuana, hash, paraphernalia and cash.

During the early morning hours of May 4, members of the Inuvik detachment searched a residence on Alder Drive during the execution of a search warrant.

Their search resulted in the seizure of a pound of marijuana, a pound of hash, various drug-related paraphernalia and a wad of cash amounting to $10,000.

Cpl. Dino Norris of the Inuvik RCMP said regardless of the amount of the seized drugs, the bust is significant.

"People have to understand that any bust is a significant one for us," said Norris.

"It is critical that people understand that this affects everyone."

The search was a result of an ongoing investigation, which is why the details are not being released yet, said Norris.

"We don't want to see more drug dealers in town," said Norris.

He said the only way to keep dealers off the streets is through community involvement.

"The only way we police officers can enforce these kinds of things is when the community steps up to the plate," said Norris.

Whether it's trafficking or bootlegging, these activities will not be tolerated, said Norris.

"These illegal drugs are being sold to people who are suffering from addictions," he said.

Tyson Joe and Justin Elias are facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and property obtained by crime.

The pair will be appearing in court on July 17.
