Yellowknife (Apr 26/06) - Two Molotov cocktails were among the weapons seized during one of two drug raids Monday afternoon.

A man and a woman have been charged as a result of a search warrant executed on a Dorset Apartments unit at about 6 p.m. April 24.

Cindy Grandejambe, 33, and Dirk Singerling, 26, of Yellowknife have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and a charge of possessing explosives.

"The significant thing about this find is some of the weapons involved," said Sgt. Mike Payne.

In addition to the two explosives, police seized between seven and nine grams of crack individually wrapped, about $230 cash, a machete, a home-made hatchet with four sharpened barbs, and assorted drug paraphernalia.

The Molotov cocktails were two small plastic bottles filled with acetone and wrapped in blue tape with a wad of matches attached.

"One can assume someone would ignite this and throw it," said Payne. "There doesn't appear to be any legitimate reason why a citizen would have this sort of thing other than to throw them at something or someone."

Yellowknife RCMP are also investigating the discovery of a "sizeable amount" of drugs found abandoned in a city hotel room at about 4 p.m. Monday.

RCMP seized between 300-400 ecstasy tablets along with 28 grams of crack cocaine, four-10 ml bottles of liquid steroids and related drug paraphernalia, including pipes, steel wool and a scale.

"The people that were in the room left and left it behind," said Const. Colleen Werrell.

The discovery was made by citizens who turned it over to police.

Werrell said RCMP decline to name the hotel where the drug was found.
