Yellowknife (Mar 03/06) - On Monday, city businesses can expect a registration package from Caribou Carnival organizers asking them to show some winter spirit.
Craig Gruben gets some big air at last year's carnival. Events like the blanket toss, tea boiling and flour tossing were popular contests for teams to enter. Co-ordinator John Dalton hopes the same is true for this year's carnival. - NNSL file photo

Whether interested in boiling tea in a creative way, entering a tug-of-war, or a dog pull, teams have the chance to show off during the corporate challenge starting on March 23.
Franklin Avenue will be closed on that afternoon for pre-carnival events. The carnival will go all weekend until March 26.
Carnival co-ordinator John Dalton has divided the community into four categories - high schools, local businesses, all levels of government, and uniformed services including the RCMP, fire department, and the Armed Forces.
Special events are scheduled for high school students and the uniformed services. High school students will participate in a special tug-of-war and the uniformed services will be allowed to enter one of the more physically demanding activities he canoe pull.
There will also be events carnival-goers can sign up for at the carnival itself.
These events include leg and arm wrestling, flour tossing, relay races and a build-your-own-toboggan contest for families.
Dalton is looking at having between seven and eight events on the snow stage every day of the carnival. All events are free and Dalton said he has witnessed a lot of interest from the community. Those participating in the corporate challenge will receive secret prizes.
