Inuvik (Mar 10/06) - Acting on a tip, Inuvik police arrested a man transporting a "significant quantity" of marijuana into the community on March 4.

It's the third bust of this magnitude in the past several weeks.

On Feb. 11 and 22, similar seizures were also made, resulting in arrests.

"We won't be able to give too many details because it could give up our source," said Const. Jim Craig, who was involved in one of the busts.

In total, the actions of the Inuvik RCMP netted three pounds of marijuana and have resulted in two men - one from Tuktoyaktuk and another from Athabasca, Alta. - being charged with drug trafficking. According to investigators, there are other charges pending.

As to the source of the drugs, Sgt. Sid Gray would only say they originated "from the south."

"For here, it's a significant amount," he added.

"And from what we're hearing, similar shipments are happening once every three or four weeks."

Police estimate the street value to be in excess of $25,000.
