Yellowknife (Feb 15/06) - Two people were involved in a single vehicle roll-over accident last Saturday afternoon on the Dettah ice road.

A 15-year-old female driver of the vehicle was rescued by firefighters, who worked for more than a half hour to save her.

A male passenger, believed to be 18, escaped injury.

The jaws of life had to be used to rip the roof off the SUV to free the girl from the badly-damaged vehicle. She was then transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries and later released.

RCMP Const. Scot Newberry was at the scene.

"We received the call at 1:15 in the afternoon and responded to the call within seven minutes," he said.

Brothers Blaine and Brett Talbot called police after seeing the rolled-over vehicle and went to help the male passenger. They did not see how the accident occurred.

Police are still investigating the cause of the incident.

Police are expecting to lay impaired driving charges against the driver.

Her name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
