Yellowknife (Jan 04/06) - Damage to a fence at the Yellowknife Golf Club has left its president discouraged about the actions of some snowmobilers.

"We don't mind people using the grounds to snowmobile or cross-country ski, but we don't want them damaging the green areas, which are fenced in," Andy Couvrette said.
Last Thursday, the orange net fence around the sixth hole was "totally shredded."
The fences are put up to protect the greens from damage over the winter months.
He said other fences were also broken through.
Couvrette said with so much of the golf course on which people can drive snowmobiles, he is at a loss to explain why people would wilfully damage the small area they want people to avoid.
This isn't the first time the golf course has fallen prey to vandals, he noted.
"Two years ago, someone had spun a track on the green and destroyed it," Couvrette said. "The year before, someone drove their ATV through the course, leaving burn marks on the green. It's ongoing."
